The lack of flow with normal gear oil is evident. Unprotected gears means damage to your gearbox, downtime with your pivot, and lack of water for your crops. All of this adds up to higher costs, less profit, and less satisfaction with your results.
Normal gear oil does not provide a sufficient flow of protection and it drains off of the gear shaft and gear teeth when the lubrication level is low. This dry start condition means that your gear teeth are metal on metal when the gearbox moves. Normal gear oil does not have the EP additive system to overcome this issue. The result is a damaged gearbox.
Normal gear oil leaves the bearings dry and allows corossion to cause damage to the inside of your gearbox. Each time the pivot starts, the lack of lubrication is allowing metal on metal contact, damaging the bearings, causing misalignment, which increases the load placed on your gearbox and in extreme cases can cause your gearbox to lock up.
